BRIEF REFLECTIONS ON THE DEMAND FOR TRANSLATION OF FOREIGN SCIENTIFIC LITERATURE IN THE CONTEXT OF SANCTIONS AND RESTRICTIONS

Abstract

The article provides a brief review of the materials of the scientific seminar “Translation of military-scientific literature in modern Russia: status and prospects”, held at the Moscow State Linguistic University in 2023 and published in 2024. The authors believe that the translation of scientific and, especially, military-scientific literature is not so much a linguistic problem as a political and strategic one. The problem of the lack of institutional demand from the political and military elite in our country for the organization of high-quality translation of foreign-language strategic documents and scientific research for the purpose of their subsequent use both in the activities of domestic government and administrative bodies, and in research, has been raised. It is emphasized that the linguistic competence and level of education of experts are critically important for understanding the military strategy of a foreign state in the context of modern armed conflicts.
