Abstract

This article examines the influence of socio-political processes and ethnocultural factors on the formation of identity politics. It is determined that the relationship between socio-political processes and ethnocultural relations in the context of political identity is influenced by: socio-political factors (the use of institutional mechanisms for the recognition or suppression of ethnocultural groups); the politicization and instrumentalization of national and political identity (including the politicization of the status and various issues of ethnic/national minorities and the artificial construction of social cleavages); ethnocultural factors (language, holidays, traditions and customs, norms of behavior and habits, myths, symbols, religion, folklore, literature); and state national policies (co-optation, quota, autonomy/recognition of cultural differences; support for national minorities). The methodological basis of the study was general logical methods of analysis and synthesis, as well as systems and normative-value approaches, which made it possible to identify the influence of socio-cultural factors on the formation of identity politics.
