ON THE ISSUE OF THE 80-TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE SIGNING OF THE POLISH-SOVIET AGREEMENT FROM JULY 30, 1941

Abstract

July 30, 2021 marks the 80-th anniversary of the signing of the Agreement between the Polish government in exile and the Soviet government which went down into history as the Sikorsky-Maisky Treaty. The negotiations took a long time and cost a lot. According to the Soviet ambassador in London, I. M. Maisky, whom Moscow instructed to conduct them with General V. Sikorsky, the Prime Minister of the Polish emigrant government and the Supreme Commander of the Polish army, these were difficult negotiation, which were on the verge of breaking several times. According to W. Churchill, they took place in an atmosphere of "coldness". These negotiations will be discussed in this article which is based on sources (both documentary and memoirs), press materials, and a number of works by prominent Polish researchers.
