The article notes that regional economic development in the Republic of Tajikistan is uneven, which is due to the various competitive advantages of the regions. In the context of market reforms and decentralization of governance, there is a concentration of economic activity in the most developed regions, which increases spatial inequality. An analysis of the dynamics of gross regional product (GRP) per capita in Tajikistan for 2005–2023 shows significant economic growth, but a persistent gap between regions. Dushanbe has demonstrated particularly high growth rates, which is due to the concentration of business, investment, and labor force here. At the same time, remote regions, such as AMBR, are developing more slowly, which requires special measures of state support. Among the factors influencing regional inequality are economic specialization, investment activity, population size and state policy. It has been established that in order to reduce disproportions it is necessary to develop infrastructure, stimulate entrepreneurship, diversify the economy, and also balance the distribution of investments. A comprehensive approach to regional economic development policy will improve the efficiency of using territorial potential and reduce the gap between regions.
