The article examines the mechanisms for implementing the import substitution policy in the regional economy and identifies the main aspects affecting its effectiveness. The classification indicators of the import substitution strategy in the regions are described. A grouping of indicators of the effectiveness of the import substitution strategy was also carried out. Direct and indirect methods for implementing the import substitution strategy are explained. The analysis focuses on import substitution strategies focused on the domestic market, foreign markets, and mixed-use strategies. Internal and external factors influencing the import substitution strategy are described.
