In the article the processes of digitalization of the region's industrial system are studied as a key factor in increasing its competitiveness and sustainability in the context of globalization and technological changes. Attention is focused on the introduction of digital technologies into production and management processes, which contributes to the formation of smart clusters and industrial parks, and also ensures the region’s integration into global value chains. The key challenges of digitalization are considered, including cybersecurity problems, the need to modernize information infrastructure and increase the digital competence of personnel. Particular attention is paid to a multi-level approach to the transformation of the industrial system: from the national to the local level. Recommendations are offered for creating an institutional environment adapted to the challenges of digitalization and for developing programs to support digital modernization, including regional and industry roadmaps.
