The article dwells on the state of industry development in Sughd viloyat, light industry inclusive. The author has analyzed the indices of the branch for the latest ten years and made conclusions according to the results obtained. He has elicited the peculiarities of the development in regard to light industry enterprises in Sughd viloyat in the Republic of Tajikistan and, proceeding from the results, substantiated that for branch development its modernization is needed and it is possible at the expense of engrafting progressive forms of production organization. There is presented the dynamics of light industry development in Sughd viloyat concerned with each branch – in particular, weaving and sewing manufacturing, produce of footwear and leather haberdashery, production of cotton filament and so on. Export of cotton filament in light industry structure is assessed as a strategic priority streamline of development.
