The article dwells on theoretico-methodological aspects of payment system and national payment system itself. The authors have studied the definitions of payment system proposed by many scientists and after their versatile analysis they worked out a treatment of the notion of their own. The latter takes into account the specificity of the national payment system and its effectiveness in the aspect of social-economic development of the country. Multiplicative effect of a perfect payment system is determined; general effect from the system in question for economy agents being well-grounded. Proceeding from the results obtained, the authors give recommendations on an improvement of an institutional and normative base of regulation and development of national payment system in Tajikistan Republic.
