In the complicated transitive period small business took an active part in the process of adaptation of regional economy to the conditions of market milieu through additional labour vacancies, elevation of polulation`s living standard, permeation of market with goods and services, replenishment of all levels of budjet taking place as well. Negative tendencies of development and location in reference to small business are observed; the authors adduce a number of indices of small business location, the role of small business in regional economy being touched upon too.
